Clash of Clans Super Bowl Commercial
My fiancé sent me this advertisement recently and I'm not sure how I missed it during the Super Bowl! It cracked me up and I don't even play Clash of Clans.
This commercial is advertising Clash of Clans in order to get more people to start playing the game. The intended target is anyone with a smart phone who doesn't currently play Clash of Clans. Additionally, this ad is more geared towards males and anyone who has seen Taken or any other movie Liam Neeson is in, since it might not be as funny to someone who hasn't.

The connection between the product's message and the target's need is convenience. This advertisement is humorous, and shows that this game is engaging, intense, and appealing- but the fact that Liam Neeson is playing while waiting for his scone shows that you can play a quick game anywhere. The single most important thing this ad is communicating is: This is a Liam Neeson-worthy game you can play anytime, anywhere.
This commercial does a great job with both the visuals and the copy. The visuals start with just the game on the screen, which puts the audience into Liam's shoes: completely engaged in the game. When he loses and is ready for his "revenge," the copy comes in strong. The copy in this ad is almost identical to what Liam says in the movie Taken, and creates a very intense, combative feeling in the commercial.
My favorite part of the commercial is definitely the twist of him being in line waiting for his scone, and I love how the visuals do not let on that he is in a cute little bakery until after the twist (note the photos above, where the background goes from dark and dreary to cute and happy.) This is the comedic relief of the commercial, and emphasizes the single most important thing for the commercial: you can get this involved in Clash of Clans no matter where you are. You can always squeeze in a battle.

The media placement for this commercial definitely helped support the single most thing. Additionally, showing it during the Super Bowl was a great way to not only get new people to download the app, but also gave this TV spot a chance to be shared over and over. By fitting all of these emotions and scenarios into a 60-Second TV spot, the idea that Clash of Clans is a fun game you can squeeze into any part of your day is emphasized.
